Το "Καλό Χωριό" απέκτησε το όνομα του ίσως επειδή βρίσκεται σε ιδιαίτερα πλούσιο και εύφορο έδαφος, και επίσης επειδή έχει μερικές από τις ομορφότερες παραλίες στον κόλπο Μεραμβέλλου. Έχει ειπωθεί ότι η νότια ακτή του κόλπου Μεραμβέλλου έχει κάτι του χαρακτήρα της Ριβιέρα, αλλά με παρθένες παραλίες και λίγα μόνο ξενοδοχεία.
