Le Riad ASSALA, l'authentique en arabe, est situé en plein coeur des plus vieux quartiers de la Médina de Marrakech ville créée en 1070 après Jésus-Christ par la dynastie des Almoravides. Marrakech a toujours été la ville plus importante du Sud et sa création peut être décomposée en trois temps : Abou BEKR célèbre chef de guerre Almoravides en 1062 choisit le site. Youssef Ben TACHFINE son cousin et successeur fonde la ville en transformant le campement des nomades en une place fortifiée appelée ksar Al Ajar ; il construit une Casbah en pierre au nord de l'actuelle KOUTOUBIA et va rapidement transformer cette première construction en citadelle. En 1126 il érige un rempart de 9 km et édifie un nouveau palais en créant dans la ville des édifices d'utilité publique (mosquées, Fontaines, oratoires etc.) les monuments qu'il érige seront d'une grande richesse architecturale et très marqués par l'influence andalouse. En 1147 Marrakech tombe et passe aux mains des Almohades sous l'impulsion du calife Abdel Moumen Ben Ali, partisan d'une tradition musulmane plus rigoureuse et plus mystique. C'est lui qui inaugure la grande période faste de Marrakech qu'il va agrandir ,urbaniser, par la construction de la Casbah ,quartier royal immense qui a nécessité la participation de 4000 artisans.Il achève en même temps la grande mosquée de la KOUTOUBIA, et Marrakech devient une véritable ville impériale avec une fonction multiple politique, intellectuelle, militaire, spirituelle, commerciale, et artisanale, carrefour incontournable du Sud en relation constante avec le Sahara, l'Andalousie, et le Maghreb. Antrim Villa is a wonderful old house built in the late 1800s. Its charm comes from the Victorian style with high ceilings, well kept stuccos, and the original pine flooring.
