Historia da Praia da Nazaré A Praia da Nazaré é de ocupação humana relativamente recente. As primeiras referências sobre a pesca na Nazaré datam de 1643, no entanto, só no início de oitocentos a população se começou a fixar no areal. A zona actualmente ocupada pelo casario, era, à época, ocupada por dunas litorais que seriam recortadas, a montante, pela foz do rio Alcoa, que ia desaguar muito a norte da actual (a sul do Porto de Pesca), tendo as várias alterações do leito do rio contribuído para a diversificação da geologia local. Os pescadores locais habitavam, sobretudo, nas partes altas – Sítio e Pederneira – dado que os constantes ataques dos piratas argelinos e holandeses tornavam o areal pouco seguro. Só no séc. XIX, posteriormente às invasões francesas, é que se reuniram condições de segurança necessárias à fixação dos pescadores junto à praia. A Nazaré começou a ser conhecida e procurada, como praia de banhos, em meados do século XIX. A sua beleza natural e tipicismo desde sempre atraíram os visitantes. A pesca, a transformação do pescado e a sua venda, foram ao longo de quase todo o século XX, as principais actividades da população. A dureza e perigosidade da vida do mar levaram muitos pescadores a procurarem uma vida melhor noutras paragens. A construção do Porto de Pesca e Recreio, no início da década de oitenta, veio alterar e melhorar a vida dos pescadores, iniciando uma nova fase no quotidiano da vila. Na década de 60, o Turismo descobriu o encanto desta vila e a Nazaré começou a ser conhecida internacionalmente. Visitada anualmente por milhares de turistas nacionais e estrangeiros, a Nazaré é hoje uma vila moderna e sempre animada. Percorrer as suas ruas estreitas e perpendiculares ao mar, é descobrir um modo de vida peculiar e autêntico, onde as surpresas espreitam a cada esquina. A zona actualmente ocupada pelo casario, era, à época, ocupada por dunas litorais que seriam recortadas, a montante, pela foz do rio Alcoa, que ia desaguar muito a norte da actual (a sul do Porto de Pesca), tendo as várias alterações do leito do rio contribuído para a diversificação da geologia local. Os pescadores locais habitavam, sobretudo, nas partes altas – Sítio e Pederneira – dado que os constantes ataques dos piratas argelinos e holandeses tornavam o areal pouco seguro. Só no séc. XIX, posteriormente às invasões francesas, é que se reuniram condições de segurança necessárias à fixação dos pescadores junto à praia. A Nazaré começou a ser conhecida e procurada, como praia de banhos, em meados do século XIX. A sua beleza natural e tipicismo desde sempre atraíram os visitantes. A pesca, a transformação do pescado e a sua venda, foram ao longo de quase todo o século XX, as principais actividades da população. A dureza e perigosidade da vida do mar levaram muitos pescadores a procurarem uma vida melhor noutras paragens. A construção do Porto de Pesca e Recreio, no início da década de oitenta, veio alterar e melhorar a vida dos pescadores, iniciando uma nova fase no quotidiano da vila. Na década de 60, o Turismo descobriu o encanto desta vila e a Nazaré começou a ser conhecida internacionalmente. Visitada anualmente por milhares de turistas nacionais e estrangeiros, a Nazaré é hoje uma vila moderna e sempre animada. Casa de Requeixo lies in a most beautiful part of Northern Portugal, the Minho region. Only 1 hour drive from Porto and 30 min. from Braga. Our family has a long standing history in this region. By converting the large farm estate to also cater for guests and run it as an organic business, we have fullfilled our live-long dream and are happy to share it with you. We like to live healthy and also want out guests to have the best food - so we started an organic garden where everyone can help themselves. The garden provides most of the vegetables and fruits we need. Our family also collected many items and historic information and we have set up a small museum on the farm which receives a lot of interest and gives a much deeper understanding of our heritage. We keep a variety of farm animals like chickens, geese and ducks - all free-range - so fresh eggs can be had daily. And we also do have some wonderful horses, the pride and joy of our daughter. Horse riding can be done by all our guests and is a truly wonderful way to explore the surroundings. Our aim is to ensure you will have a wonderful time and get to know this beautiful country and make this a holiday to remember!
